Home Grown Cherry Tomatoes

My wife decided that planting vegetables would be a great pass time and seeing that I started to play Barn Buddy and Happy Farm on Facebook, she thought that the real thing would get me away from the computer. Interestingly, it did. I was initially not too interested in gardening or any planting of that sort. I always thought of gardening as a patient sort of hobby and when I plant something, I expect to see it grow quickly.

We started to go down to a plant nursery to check out some of the seeds that we could plant and my wife suggested that we get vegetables. Made sense as you could plant them and then harvest them to cook after a few months. Though my mother would disagree saying that it took too much effort to plant the vegetables and we'd be better off buying them from the market or grocer.

The picture you see here is just the first tomato that has ripened. It took more than 3 months to get it to this stage, considering we did not use any fertilizer nor plant feed. So, that's just it, one measly tomato. But, now there are other tomatoes starting to show up on the plant and it's a good thing that I decided to plant 2 pots of tomatoes. The flowers are blooming and now, I'm just waiting for them to fruit.

Over the weekend, we also got ourselves some fertilizer (chicken dung). According to the lady at the nursery, she says chicken dung would be more suitable for growing tomatoes. I know it stinks like hell.

This is the second vegetable that we've planted. The first was spinach, which we have harvested twice. It's quite simple and easy to grow. Plant the seed in and within 4-5 weeks, they are ready to be harvested. Nothing like eating home grown vegetables. My wife's decided to be ambitious and she has started planting passion fruits. I'm still waiting to see how that turns out.

Sunset in KK, Sabah

It's been a long time since I've written anything on my blog and since I just got back from KK, Sabah, I'll start with something just to jump start my blog. This was my first visit to Sabah and Kota Kinabalu is truly a lovely place. I can't believe that such a beautiful place exists and is part of Malaysia. This was a trip together with the RSMC (Road Safety Marshal Club) members and we were distributing free helmets to primary school children who were pillion riders to school. The helmets were sponsored by Genting Berhad.

The entourage arrived on Friday evening and by the time we checked into the hotel, it was already quite late. The first night, we stayed at the Promenade Hotel down in Kota Kinabalu. We went in our respective rooms and met up again at 10pm for a movie in the GSC in KK. Now the cinema had a very old layout and if you've seen cinemas from the late nineties, you would know what I mean. The entrance still had those velvet red curtains and the ads that flicked through the screen were

shot out from a projector sliding from one ad to another. Man, that brought back some memories of old cinemas. After the movie we went to a food court nearby called 'Old Times' or something like that for a late dinner. It was more like supper as it was already 12.30am. The food was bearable, but I guess it was our hunger that m

ade us eat up rather than it being tasty.

The next day, we woke up early, had our breakie and headed out to the school to complete the program. We started as early as 8.30am and by the time we were done, it was almost 3pm. We cleared out all the items as quickly as possible and we headed off to lunch at KFC. Nothing like fast food, though I must add that the coleslaw taste a little weird. As soon as we were done with lunch, we headed off to Kundasang, which was about 2 hrs drive from KK. It's the

foothill of Mount Kinabalu and the following pics are breathtaking. Now, I normally prefer sandy white beaches to mountain sides, but the trip to Kundasang has really opened up my eyes of how beautiful nature can be in East Malaysia.

The temperatures were chilly, much cooler than say Genting Highlands and the uphill ride was very long. Now if there was one thing that was evident about KK, you see more 4x4 and diesel trucks than anywhere else in Malaysia.

It's the vehicle of choice, Toyota Landcruisers, Hilux, Mitsu Pajeros, Storms and Tritons, Isuzu Troopers & DMax. All 4x4 of any makes were found in this town and almost everyone used diesel as their fuel of choice. This was probably due to the long distances that they need to travel.

revoltech transformers

the next two revoltech transformers are finally out! first it was optimus prime and megatron... this month, they released rodimus and starscream. The new releases are a lot more improved compared to the older ones. The paint for one is a lot more detailed and it's metallic. I've always loved rodimus' color scheme, it's bright and it's eye catching. This time, both revoltech figures came with stands for ease of posing. Here are just some of the pictures that I've taken.

VF-1S

It's been a while since I've written anything on this place. Finally managed to get my first ever Macross figure, a 1/60 scale Yamato series. The details are amazing on it and since young, besides Transformers, this was my other favourite cartoon. Unfortunately, this series was an earlier release, and therefore did not feature the perfect transformation mode. To transform it, you first need to unlock the legs and remove it from the body, yes... remove. What a stupid technique!

I hear in Japan, they'll be releasing the perfect transformation model sometime in summer, so no more needing to detach the legs. I guess this will be my one and only macross figure. I'll stick to Transformers.

KITT

Just finished watching the pilot episode of Knight Rider 2008 and I must say it's a great show. 25 years ago, Knight Rider was a Trans Am, known as KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand). Today, they've built a newer version, the Knight Industries Three Thousand, in the shape of a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

The car has a lot more technology, night vision and nano repair technology are just some of the car's talents. I mean, I grew up watching this show. Back then the car itself was the selling point of the whole film. A talking car that could drive itself. Bullet proof and turbo boost were just bonuses.

Didn't think that they would resurrect the tv series, but they did and in a very successful way as well by picking a very updated American muscle car and packing it with technology.

Optimus Prime

Wow, it just shows how long since I've posted anything. Anyway, CNY is here and I went back to my parents' hometown in Ipoh.

Had a lot of good food and lost a bit this year in gambling. Looks like no gambling luck at all this year, so better abstain.

Finally, the Optimus Prime masterpiece that I ordered from US arrived right before CNY eve. Haven't had the time to take it out and play. I only managed to open it after I came back to KL. It's one heavy piece, even heavier than the megatron MP. Though this is not the Japanese MP that I was hoping for, I'm still happy with it.
